Summary / Abstract :
Sihanoukville is a city which provide losts of favorable condition for revolutionary or rebel groups to hide themselves and to launch hid and run attacks easily, especially in some areas with dense forest and ranges of mountain along the National Route 4.
Most of the people in this city are new people (Pracheachon Thmei). Most genocide acts were committed by people from other region such in Kampot and Takeo provinces Known as the Southwest Zone(Phumipheak Nieredey). The indigenous people were evacuated to the Regions 35 and 37 in Prey Nob District. Therefore, most genocide acts appeared to be committed in this district.

The visit of the mapping team to Sianoukville was successful in that we managed to visit the main DK prison for that Region (Dambon 13?) at Taney, and also to visit the main killing site and mass graves used for the burial of the victims from that prison at Chamkar Merith.

Witnesses confirmed that Sianoukville City was evacuated in 1975, and the area around the city became a high security military zone occupied by soldiers and Chinese specialist advisors. Base people as well as Lon Nol officials were moved to the Northem part of Prey Nup District, and few remained in Mittapheap District. Many teachers from the Province were gathered in a village in Prey Nup District called Bat Se Moan, and the present Chief of that District, who was also sent there, stated that ony 80 teachers remained in 1979 out of over 300 teachers who had been sent there in 1975, the rest having been killed.
