The loss of a family member - my first son
In approximately 1976, my son, Phin Pha, was forcibly enlisted in the army. I do not know why they arrested my son and enlisted him in the army. One morning, when I had gone to a market, two or three militiamen came to arrest my son at our home. I do not know who ordered these militiamen to arrest my son. My family and cousin, Kim Oeun, witnessed the incident. From the moment this incident took place, he disappeared forever. I have never heard anything from him since. The militiamen arrested my son at our home, located at this current address. |

Forced labor
From 1975 to the time of the fall [of the regime], I was forced to work terribly hard, carrying cow dung and working on a farm. I started working from seven a.m. to eleven a.m. After having lunch, I continued to work until five p.m. They forced me to work both in this village and in others, such as Treng village and Tuol Ramork village. Even though we were sick, we had to work. Moreover, they gave us a very small amount of food to eat. I think Ta Sun and Ta San, [heads of] village committees, who have since died, forced villagers to work extremely hard. I do not know why they gave us such a small amount of rations to eat, and made us to do forced labor. But one thing I do know, is that they would kill those [people] who could not finish the assigned tasks. |
