Evacuation
On the liberation day of Phnom Penh in 1975, my wife and I were held at gunpoint and forced to move out of Phnom Penh. They said, “No need to take any possession, just bring yourselves. A week later, [you] can return.� At the time, I lived at kilometer number 6. Pol Pot’s [militia] forced us to walk day and night from Phnom Penh to Prek Kdam. It took us three days straight to reach Skun. I saw many people dying along the road due to malnutrition, particularly elderly people. They were forced to keep walking forwards at all times. I observed Pol Pot [militiamen], who were all armed, force us to keep walking forward. But their identities were unknown to me. Along the way, I carried both my luggage and my child. At night time, we slept in a field. The mosquitoes bit us terribly. In 1983, I did not participate in filing a petition. Now I am happy to file the victims application form, because I want to see [the Khmer Rouge leaders] brought to trail. |
