Forced labor
From 1975 to 1979, the Khmer Rouge forced me to transplant rice seedlings, harvest and thresh rice, carry dirt, and build the Ramlech dam, located in Chre commune. I did most of the assigned tasks in the village. Every task was under the supervision of a unit chief, Yey Yin (deceased). This unit chief, mistreated us and she is responsible for forcing people to work extremely hard. Early each morning, my neighbors, Yey Nim, currently living in the village, Yey Khiek (deceased), Yey Lorn, currently living in the village, other people, and myself, worked from three a.m. to eleven a.m., without having breakfast. Then we received a ladle of rice soup [half rice and half porridge] to eat. After an hour rest, we worked until five or six p.m. Then we received another ladle of rice soup to eat. During the rice seedling transplanting season, we sometimes worked until nine or ten p.m., according to the assignments. Those who felt ill had to work anyway. Only when they became seriously sick, were they allowed to take a day off. At the Romlech dam, I was forced to work from seven a.m. to eleven a.m. Then, after an hour to eat, I continued to work until six p.m., when I received another ration. At night, I worked until nine or ten p.m., without receiving any extra food. Although pregnant, I still had to work. I lived in pain, and I cried every night, because I was exhausted and worried about my little child. I do not remember the exact date, when they forced me to build the Ramlech dam. I only remember that the incident took place from 1975 to 1979. I think that the high level Khmer Rouge cadres are responsible for forcing people to work extremely hard. I do not recall whether I participated in petitions of 1983. But I am happy to file the application form now, and want to see those people being prosecuted soon. |
