Khieu Phal got married to Thuon in 1980. They already got divorce. Phal has 4 children, but one of them died because of sickness. Her father called Chik Chring died when she was a young girl. Her mother called Mech died in the Khmer Rouge regime. Phal has two siblings, but they had already died. In the Khmer Rouge regime, she was lacking of food, water, medical care, and shelter. She was brainwashed. She was forced to separate from her family members. She saw the unnatural death of her family and friend. She used to drown for several times when she was 15-16 years old. She has suffocated for the last 5 or 6 years. She lost consciousness twice. Recently, she has recurrent nightmares. She easily feels jumpy. She has trouble sleeping. She feels on guard. She feels irritable. She is ability to remember parts of the most traumatic events. She is sudden emotional. She finds out by other people that she has done something that she cannot remember.
