Yem Chantha had lived in Prey Veng since 1970. In 1967, while Chantha was student, Chantha directed student cooperative. This cooperative had been formed by Tiv Ol who had introduced communism to cooperative. In 1970, Chantha and his grand mother went to make money in the forest by selling goods in the boat. In 1971, on his way to Phnom Penh to but goods, he was arrested by the soldiers because they had found Sangkum card and red flag which was decorated with hammer and sickle with him. Chantha told that he had asked for that red flag and card to use whenever he was stopped by Vietcong during his business trip so he could escaped from being seized his goods.
យ៉ែម ចន្ថា រស់នៅព្រៃវែងតាំងពីឆ្នាំ១៩៧០។ កាលនៅរៀន ឆ្នាំ១៩៦៧ ធ្លាប់កាន់កាប់សហករណ៍សិស្សដែលមាន ទីវ អុល ជាអ្នកដឹកនាំបង្កើត និងដឹកនាំឱ្យមានគំនិតកុម្មុយនិស្ដ។ ១៩៧០ ពេលនៅព្រៃរកស៊ីជាមួយជីដូនទិញឥវ៉ាន់តាមទុកលក់។ ១៩៧១ ពេលចេញទៅភ្នំពេញទិញឥវ៉ាន់ត្រូវទាហានចាប់ខ្លួនព្រោះឆែកឆេ ឃើញមានប័ណ្ណសង្គម និងក្រណាត់ទង់ក្រហមញញួរ និងកណ្ដៀវ។ សាម៉ីខ្លួនបានឆ្លើយថាទង់ក្រហមនេះខ្លួនសុំគេទុកដាក់តាមខ្លួន ពេលដឹកឥវ៉ាន់ជួបពួកយៀកកុងបង្ហាញទង់ និងប័ណ្ណសង្គមនឹងបានរួច ខ្លួនពីការចាប់ឥវ៉ាន់។
