Arrest and killing
In the dry season of 1978, I witnessed a family of rubber plantation workers being arrested by Khmer Rouge combatants who came from the region. The breadwinner of this family was Va. I do not know why the arrest took place. The arrest took place during both daytime and nighttime; Va was arrested during the day, while his family was arrested at night. I wondered where Va had been taken. I only know that he was loaded into a car and taken away. Va was arrested in his home, located in village 2, Chamkar Andaung commune, Chamkar Leu district. In addition to Va, many other people also disappeared under the regime. [For instance], I can recall the case of a person named Ta Phly, a rubber plantation worker. He was probably arrested because he had Vietnamese blood. The combatants who guarded the rubber plantation farm arrested Ta Phly in 1978. In terms of the order to arrest rubber plantation workers, I do not know who ordered the combatants to do so. In addition to the two people mentioned above, other workers were also arrested, though I did not witness these incidents. I sometimes learned of the arrests from other workers who spoke of them while working. I was terrified because my parents were city dwellers, Phnom Penhers. Despite this, I survived because I finished and followed the assigned tasks. |
