Pol Peb stop being amonk in 1973 and volunteerily served in national army for 2 months.
In September 1974, he resigned because of his sickness and lived with his next cousin Saom Hun. On January 1, 1975 at about mid-night, there was a fighting and Pol Peb was tied. As for Saom Hun, he was forced to gather people to go with enemies. In the next morning, both of them escaped from enemies and entered national military base and then were arrested without reason. ប៉ុល ប៉េប បានលាចាកសិក្ខាបទនៅឆ្នាំ១៩៧៣ ហើយស្ម័្រគចូលបម្រើ ទ័ពជាតិបាន២ខែ ដោយសារតែមានរោគប្រចាំកាយ ក៏ឈប់ពីយោធានៅខែកញ្ញា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៤ មករស់នៅជាមួយបងប្អូនជីតួតមួយឈ្មោះ សោមហ៊ុន ដែលត្រូវបានចាប់ខ្លួនមកជាមួយគ្នា។ មានការប្រយុទ្ធគ្នា១នៅថ្ងៃទី១ ខែមករា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៥ ប្រមាណម៉ោង១អាធ្រាតឈ្មោះ ប៉ុល ប៉េប ត្រូវបានខ្មាំងចាប់ចងនៅក្នុងផ្ទះ ហើយសោម ហ៊ុន ត្រូវបានខ្មាំងបងំ្ខអោយប្រមូលអ្នកស្រុកដែលនៅសល់ឯទៀតនៅថ្ងៃទី២ ខែមករា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៥ នៅពេលដែលពួកគេបានគេចពីពួកខ្មាំង ហើយចូលទៅក្នុងបន្ទាយកងទ័ពជាតិនោះក៏ត្រូវគេចាប់ខ្លួនដោយគ្មានដឹងខ្លួនថាពួក គេមានពិរុទ្ធអី្វឡើយ។
