Main Crime Details :
|
Between 1975 and 1979, a mobile work brigade chief named Siev, a woman who received orders from a commune chief named Sok, assigned me to do many tasks, including plowing paddy fields, carrying earth, digging up potatoes, collecting human waste, pulling out rice seedling, harvesting and threshing rice, digging canals, building the 30 September dam, and plowing the rice field. Most of the time, I carried soil at the 30 September dam and plowed the rice field. I remember that in 1977, I witnessed a female and male mobile work brigade, consisting of approximately 30 people, building the fundamental construction site (10 meters in depth) at construction site one, located in Kandol village, Rong Roeung commune, Prasat Balaing district, Kampong Thom province. I saw them all die in a landslide.
After witnessing this incident, I was shocked and went away. At this time, amongst the landslide victims, five people passed out, ten people died, and fifteen others were buried in the ground. The chief who took control of this construction site (whose name I did not know) said, “If those ten bodies cannot be taken out, just leave the bodies there to support the pillars. At this time, I dared not stay there to listen because I was afraid that if I went into the construction pit, I would be buried in the landslide again. Thousands of people collected from various districts in Kampong Thom province were ordered to build the 30 September dam. Two to three people in the mobile work brigade who were infected with malaria died after they were sent to a commune hospital. At 3 a.m., a unit chief named Sieng blew his whistle to order everyone to dig the ground till 11 a.m., a time when we ate a bowl of gruel with morning glory soup, banana (polished banana that was mixed with the gruel), or pumpkin soup. However, I could never satiate my hunger. At 1 p.m., [I] worked until 5 p.m., but I did not work at night. Because of my work carrying soil, my chest still hurts today. I do not know who should be held responsible for this, but I do know that the unit chief Sieng assigned me an excessive amount of work and never gave me enough food to eat. |

Additional information
In 1972, a security chief named Thleng arrested my father, Men Kann, and killed him. I do not know where Thleng took my father to be killed, but I witnessed security forces arrest my father at our house, located in Ampildop village, Damrei Slap commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. My father was accused of committing a moral offense. His son, my brother, loved a woman named Tom. At this time, Tom told her brother, a security chief named Thleng, to arrest my father because my father told my brother not to get married. Tom became angry and told her brother to arrest and kill my father. I have suffered trauma because my father was killed and my mother died when I was young. |
