Torture
After April 17, 1975, when the Khmer Rouge evacuated people out of the provincial capital town, Phea Chea, a base security police, came to arrest my husband. While I knew that he was accused of being part of someone’s network, I was not so certain about which network they were referring to. At the time, they took him to a detention center located in Kola village. Luckily, my sibling went to speak with and beg them to release him, saying that my husband was not part of a network. This is why they released him. In addition, a Khmer Rouge security police named Kheat arrested my cousin and placed him in a sack, accusing him of killing a buffalo while plowing. He was then buried. In the morning, my husband came to inform me that my brother had been killed the night before. |

Forced labor
In 1975, when the Khmer Rouge evacuated people out of Kampong Thom province, my family and I were deported to Phliek village. At the time, the Khmer Rouge assigned me to carry soil at Brachul dam and Ponnheachy dam. They summoned us to each carry two meters of earth per day. I could not finish this task, though other people who worked with me at the construction site could. After working there, I returned to Thlok village, at which point Chhim, a village chief, summoned me to dig canals at Ponnheachy as well as other canals around the village. In addition, they ordered me to pull out seedlings (five phlaun per day) and transplant rice seedlings (ten acres per day). If we could not accomplish these tasks, they did not allow us to stop working; we were forced to complete the work. The village chief also sent us to carry sheaves of rice. For three years and eight months, I worked and lived with pain every day. |
