The death of my husband, Cheam Cheav
Approximately two months after the liberation of Phnom Penh, Cheam Cheav, my husband, was killed by the Khmer Rouge. When Pran, a village security police, came to arrest my husband, I lived in Phdiek village, Khan Nhaem commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. My husband was arrested because of accusation that he was a Lon Nol soldier. They said that they were taking my husband to receive an education for half a month. He disappeared forever. Siev, my former neighbor, now lives in Kabb Thlok village, Damrei Slap commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. |

Other Crime :
|
Malnutrition
Three months after my husband was taken away, I lived with pain and suffering in Phdiek village, Khann Nhaem commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. At this time, I ate nothing except bamboo shoots mixed with gruel. Three months after the arrest of my husband, they started to give rations to people. They gave my family (three people) five cans of rice to eat over the course of three days. This ration was not enough. The people who gave the rations were Loung (male) and Ny (female). They told me to calm and strengthen myself because I was a new person. Members of my family at that time were Chiev Chuo (female) and Ny (female). After living in [Phdiek village] for seven months, I returned to my home village: La-ak village, Damrei Slap commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. As soon as I arrived in my home village, they refused to give me rations, saying that I was not a member of the cooperative. Only two months later did they give me rations. I cannot remember who refused to give me the rations. When given nothing to eat, I walked around collecting rice to eat. I did not understand why they called me a “candidate. To my knowledge, “candidate probably referred to a person who was about to be taken away and killed. |
