Killing
In 1975, five Khmer Rouge combatants came to call on my father and took him to be killed at Tachul. Upon arrival, they told my father to work in Ta Chul, Phann Nhaem commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. Later on, my aunt went to look for him in Ta Chul village and asked villagers there about him. The villagers said they had killed him the night before. I do not know the names of the villagers in Ta Chul who witnessed the killing and told me about that incident. My father was killed because of an accusation that he was a Lon Nol soldier and traitor. |

Evacuation
In 1975, Angkar Khmer Rouge deported me from Kampong Thom provincial town to my home village: Mongkolsla village, Damreislap commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. During this time, instead of sending my family to live in the village, they sent us to live at the farthest edge of the village, next to the forest. In this village, there were seventy families, twenty of whom had been deported from the east zone. A female comrade named Ry took charge of this village. She was not native to the village. The evacuation of people out of Kampong Thom capital town took place because Lon Nol soldiers were cheated by Khmer Rouge politics. Forced labor In late 1975, Chann Hai, a children’s unit chief in Mongkolsla village, Damreislap commune assigned me to collect cow dung and cut Tuntriengkhet [a kind of tree used to make fertilizer under the Khmer Rouge regime.] Later on, they ordered me carry leaves of rice from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., at which time we were allowed to take a rest and eat gruel. After allowing us to rest for an hour, they ordered us to continue working until 6 p.m. Three months after assigning me to carry the leaves of rice, they sent me to cut Tuntriengkhet in order to make fertilizer, mixing it up with both Deidambok, [pile of earth heaped up by termites], and human waste. I do not know why they forced children to overwork like this. |
