While Yathay was escaping to Thailand, he was captured and tied up by Khmer Rouge soldiers. On the rainny night, he managed to loosen from the tie and cross the river to Thailand. Reaching his destination, he was asked many questions by the American Baptist missionary because of his unusual.
ខណៈពេល យ៉ាថាយ រត់ភៀសខ្លួនទៅប្រទេសថៃ ថាយ ត្រូវបានចាប់ខ្លួន និងចាប់ថងដោយទាហានខ្មែរក្រហម។ នៅរាត្រីពេលមានភ្លៀងធ្លាក់ ថាយ ត្រូវបាននោះលែងពីកាចាប់ចង និង ថាយ បានឆ្លងទនេ្លទៅប្រទេសថៃ។ ពេលទៅដល់ប្រទេសថៃ ថាយ ត្រូវបានឆ្លើយសំនួរខ្លះៗ ដោយអ្នកផ្សព្វផ្សាយសាសនាគ្រិស្គអាមេរិក ដោយសារតែការមិនប្រក្រតីរបស់ថាយ។
