The ASEAN proposal for a comprehensive political settlement of the Cambodian problem was placed before the 34th United Nations General Assembly in 1979 and gained overwhelming support from UN members. This porposal included the withdrawal of all Vietnamese troops from Cambodia, the right of the Cambodian people to self-determination, and the need for UN supervised elections.
សហគមអេស៊ានបានដាក់សំណើរអំពីដំណោះស្រាយខាងផ្នែកនយោបាយទាក់ទងទៅនឹងបព្ហាប្រឈមនៅកម្ពុជាយ៉ាងទូលំទូលាយមុននឹងការធ្វើមហាសន្និបាតទី៣៤នៃ អង្គការសហប្រជាជាតិកក្នុងឆ្នាំ១៩៧៩ និងធ្វើឱ្យមានសមាជិកទាំងអស់មានការគាំទ្រយ៉ាងពេញទំហឹង។ សំណើនេះបូកបព្ចាូលទាំងការដកចេញនូវទាហានវៀតណាមពីកម្ពុជារួមទាំងសិទ្ធិនៃប្រជជនកម្ពុជាក្នុងការសមេ្រចចិត្ដដោយខ្លួនឯង ពីតម្រូវការរបន់អង្គការសហប្រជាជាតិទាក់ទងនឹងការគ្រប់ង្រការបោះឆ្នោត។
