In 1974, the genocide clique (Pol Pot) evacuated my family to La-ak village, fifteen kilometers from this village (my current village). We then escaped to Kampong Thom provincial town because we were afraid of getting killed. We then lived in the provincial town for a year under the Khmer Republic regime (Lon Nol regime). On April 17, 1975, they deported my family back to our home village (Tbil village). However, we were sent to live in the forest: not inside the village. We were assigned to do farming. From 1976 to 1977, I was put to work in a mobile work brigade, building rice dykes, pulling out rice seedlings and guarding (the village) at night. During this period, I worked in Raluos village, south of Kampong Thom. Due to a lack of food and medicine, I fell down and was unconscious.
After I worked in the mobile work brigade, they sent me to chop down trees for two years in a liberated area named Ta Lek. I was assigned to saw timber until 1979. I saw people being loaded onto carts and taken to be killed at night. In mid 1977, people deported from Phnom Penh to Tbil village, including Chiv (husband), Ne (wife), Bot (English teacher, male) and Ry (wife), Seng (engineer) and Na (wife), and Kea and Chim (wife), were executed. Chet, a security chief, was the executioner. In 1974, monks were disrobed because there was no one bringing them food. Everyone was forced to do farming. In 1976, all property was collected and used collectively, at which point collective eating emerged. Even the crops and animals were collected. Nguon, my cousin, was killed in 1975 because he was a Lon Nol soldier, though I do not know where he was killed. I assume that the people who took and killed him were district security police or commune security police. My request is to prevent the Khmer Rouge regime from occurring for second time. People survived that regime because of the United Front for the National Salvation of Kampuchea (UFNSK). |
