Soon after he returned back to Cambodia, Sihanouk flew to New York to tell newsmen that although Cambodians no longer felt outright hostility toward the US, it would be several year before relations were established between the two countries. The Prince also surprised the France by saying that they would be want two years or more before relations were renewed with Cambodia. Only china was allowed into Cambodia from the start.
ភ្លាមៗក្រោយពេលសីហនុបានត្រឡប់មកកម្ពុជាវិញ សីហនុ បានហោះហើរចេញទៅញ៉ូយ៉កដើម្បីប្រាប់ទៅអ្នកសារព័ត៌មានថា ទោះបីជាប្រទេសកម្ពុជាលែងមានអារម្មណ៍សារទរទាំងស្រុងចំពោះសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិកក៏ពិតមែន តែប្រទេសទាំងពីរក៏ធ្លាប់បានបង្កើតទំនាក់ទំនងរវាងគ្នាជាច្រើនឆ្នាំមកហើយ។ ព្រះអង្គទ្រង់ក៏បានផ្ដល់ការភ£ាក់ផ្អើលដល់ប្រទេសបារាំងដោយបាននិយាយថា បារាំងគួរតែរងចាំរយៈពេល២ឆ្នាំ រឺអាចនឹងយូរជាងនេះមុនពេលដែលបង្កើតទំនាក់ទំនងថ្មីជាមួយកម្ពុជា។ មានតែប្រទេសចិនតែប៉ុណ្ណោះដែលអនុព្ញាតិ្ដឱ្យចូលក្នុងប្រទេសកម្ពុជាតាំងពីចាប់ផ្ដើមដំបូង។
