One escapee described the refugees' condition during the attempt to flee to Thailand. He said that he had climded the tree when the Khmer Rouge continually fired to death a number of refugees. He felt distressed watching them die like animals.
អ្នករត់គេចម្នាក់បានរៀបរាប់អំពីស្ថានភាពដែលជនភៀសខ្លួនបំរុងទៅប្រទេសថៃ។ គាត់បាននិយាយថាគាត់បានរត់ឡើងដើមឈើនៅពេលដែលក្រុមខ្មែរក្រហមកំពុងតែបន្ដសម្លាប់ក្រុមជនភៀសខ្លួននោះ។ គាត់មានអារម្មណ៍ថាភ័យព្រួយនៅពេលបានឃើញនៃការស្លាប់របស់ពួកគេដូចខ្មោចសត្វ។
