The rampant corruption of the Lon Nol regime and his army had long been a major barrier to a government victory. When rioting broke out in Battambang and the rebels surged through the countryside around the city, Cambodian army officers lolled on the veranda of the Hotel La Piscine, interupting their dips in the pool only for another glass of cognac.
អំពើពុករលួយទូទៅនៅក្នុងរបប លន់ នល់ និង កងទ័ពរបស់គាត់ គឺជាគ្រឿងរារាំងដ៏ធំសំម្បើមនៅក្នុងជ័យជម្នះរបស់រដ្ឋាភិបាល។ នៅពេលកុប្បកម្មកើតមាននៅបាត់ដំបង និង ការប៉ះបោរកាន់តែរើឡើងទៅដល់ជនបទជុំវិញទីក្រុង មន្ដ្រីកងទ័ពកម្ពុជាឈរក្រែតត្រតនៅលើវេរ៉ងដានៃសណ្ឋាគារ ឡាភីស៊ីន រំខានដល់ការលោតទម្លាក់ខ្លួនចុះមកក្នុងអាងទឹកសម្រាប់តែកូញ៉ាក់(ស្រា) មួយកែវទៀត។
