Witnessing prisoners at a security center of Kbel Village:
In approximately early 1977, I saw many prisoners at Kbel Village, Sankor Commune. The number of inmates was at least fifty. I noticed that the prisoners were very skinny, handcuffed and shackled. Based on my observation, the prisoners must have had insufficient food to eat. I do not know where they came from or why they were detained there. I witnessed the incident while searching for Angtriengkhet (a kind of tree used to make fertilizer). Chet was the security chief, and Mien was the deputy chief. An elderly man named Norn was the village security policeman. It was known that Norn reported people who stole anything in the village. Three days later, searching for Angtriengkhet at the same place, I witnessed a group of about twenty young prisoners. I do not know why they were there or where they came from. Many other children also witnessed this incident, but I do not know their names. |

Malnutrition:
From 1977 to 1978, there was an extreme lack of food. At that time, I lived in Kbel Village, Sankor Commune. I received only half a ladle of gruel twice a day. If we were unable to go and get gruel on time, they would give us nothing to eat. They stated that this was the way in which Angkar divided the ration. At that time, Comrade Thaong was the cooperative chief. Of course, my family members received the same amount of ration as me, and it was insufficient. Starvation occurred everywhere in the village. My family consisted of Sau Hieng (elder sister) and Sau Huor (elder sister), both of whom also suffered from malnutrition. At that time, the rice production was bountiful, but we still received insufficient rations. The leaders told people to temper their appetite because the food supply was being sent to soldiers who were fighting with the Vietnamese. I do not know who said this. The information was announced during a meeting. |
