An Tay missed the American evacuation of Phnom Penh. On April 12, 1975, as the last helicopter ferried Americans and Cambodians from the US Embassy in Phnom Penh to the USS Okinawa in the Gulf of Thailand, Tay, a telephone technician in the Embassy, was flying into the interior.
អាន តាយ បានខកខានពីធ្វើដំណើចេញពីទីក្រុងភ្នំពេញទៅកាន់អាមេរិក។ កាលពីថ្ងៃទី១២ ខែមេសា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៥ ឧទ្ធម្ភាគចក្រចុងក្រោយបង្អស់ ដែលមានផ្ទុកនូវអ្នកដំណើរទាំងជនជាតិ អាមេរិក និងជនជាតិកម្ពុជា ធ្វើការហោះហើរ ចេញពីស្ថានទូតសហរដ្ឋអាមេរិក ដែលតាំងពីនៅទីក្រុង ភ្នំពេញ ទៅកាន់នាវាចម្បាំង យូអេសអេស អូគីណាវ៉ា ដែលនៅឈូង សមុទ្រថៃ តាយ និង អ្នកបចេ្ចសទេសខាងទូរសព្ទដែលរស់នៅក្នុងស្ថានទូត ក៏បានធ្វើការហោះហើរទៅកាន់ឈូងសមុត្រថៃដែរ។
