Persecution:
When I was building the dam next to Kdey Sen Pagoda of Kampong Svay District, I had a fever. However, Ly, the female unit chief, accused me of malingering. She forced me to continue building the dam, and I passed out unconscious. Sen, the chief of Sangkat Trapeang Russei, ordered three of his subordinates to mistreat, kick, and stomp on me because they were angry with me, saying that I malingered. The incident took place in late 1978 in Bakk Kor Village, unknown commune, Kampong Svay District. Sen, the chief of Sangkat Trapeang Russei, wanted me beaten to death. I was being stepped on and pushed into the water. Sen said, “To destroy you is no loss.� At the time, Nop, the mobile unit chief, and an unknown combatant chief, begged Sen to release me. I was then sent to a hospital in Taing Krasaing, Kampong Svay District. In late 1978, I heard from my cousin, Nheup, that my mother was sick. I asked the unit chief, Ly, to allow me to visit my mother. Ly did not allow me to go, saying that I was not a doctor and there were medical staff at that place. Then I escaped and went home anyway. However, before reaching my house, I was caught by three division chiefs whose names I do not recall. I was taken back to my workplace, Taing Krasaing, Kampong Svay District. When we arrived at the hospital, Phal, the hospital chief, confronted the combatant chief in order to help release me. Phal hid me by locking me away in a rice storehouse. The combatant chief was trying to find me because he wanted to kill me. However, he could not find me because Phal, the hospital chief, had helped me. |

In late 1975, the Khmer Rouge separated my family, putting my parents to work in the cooperative dining hall of Sangkat Trapeang Russie, Sann Kor Commune, Kampong Svay District. My five siblings, Khoeun, Suy, Phim, Chhort, and Chuo, were put to work in the children’s mobile unit in Sleng Khpuos Village, Sann Kor Commune, Kampong Svay District. The Khmer Rouge ordered them to make fertilizer and chop down termite mounds. I was put to work in a mobile unit in Taing Krasaing Village, Sann Kor Commune, Kampong Svay District. At first, they made me carry earth for three months and then work on building a dam for three or four months. Later, I had to carry the wounded. I never saw my family during that time. I did not reunite with my family until 1979. Ky Thean, the commune chief who separated me from my family, assigned me to chop down trees in the forest in order to clear fields for farming. He told us to pack our clothes, spoon, plate, and pot and said that in a month’s time, we could return home. |
