The Vietnamese had become more dependent on the Soviet Union than was healthy for an independent power. But an understanding of their view of the world must take into account Vietnam's historic feared of China, its historic rivalry with Thailand.
វៀតណាមបានក្លាយជាប្រទេសដែលមានសភាពឯករាជ្យច្រើនជាងបណ្ដាល ប្រទេសដែលមានភាពសមស្របសម្រាប់ឥទ្ធិពលឯករាជ្យនៅក្នុងសហភាពសូ វៀត។ គឺត្រូវបានគិតបញ្ចូលនៅក្នុងរឿងរ៉ាវប្រវតិ្ដសាស្ដ្ររបស់វៀត ណាមដែលមានភាពភ័យខ្លាចទៅលើប្រទេសចិន ប្រវតិ្ដរបស់វៀតណាមក៏ ត្រូវបានប្រកួតប្រជែងជាមួយនឹងប្រទេសថៃដែរ។
