In January 1989, the Cambodian war was on the verge of a settlement, and for the first time in decades Cambodians were reasonably optimistic that peace would save their nation from the deadly sequence of war and terror that had nearly destroyed them.
នៅក្នុងខែមករា ឆ្នាំ១៩៨៩ សង្គ្រាមនៅក្នុងប្រទេសកម្ពុជា គឺស្ថិតនៅ ក្នុងការដោះស្រាយហើយសម្រាប់ជាលើកដំបូងនៅទសវត្សរ៍ ប្រជាជន កម្ពុជាគឺគិត បែបសុទិដ្ឋនិយមសមស្របដែលថាសន្ដិភាពគឺអាចសង្គ្រោះ ប្រទេសជាតិរបស់គេចេញពីសង្គ្រាមដែលកាប់សម្លាប់ជាបន្ដបន្ទាប់និង ភេវរកម្មដែលសឹងតែបំផ្លិតបំផ្លាញគេទៀតផង។
