Khmer Rouge leaders explained that the goal was to make Cambodia within 20 years a self-sufficient agricultural nation that relied on no other country. However, the human and cultural cost had been tremendous.
មេដឹកនាំខ្មែរក្រហមបានពន្យល់ថា គោលដៅគឺធ្វើឱ្យកម"ុជាក្នុងរយៈពេល២០ឆ្នាំក្លាយជាប្រទេសកសិកម្មដែលអាចរស់បានដោយខ្លួនឯងដោយមិនពឹងផ្អែកទៅលើប្រទេសចិន។ ទោះយ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ ការបាត់បង់មនុស្សនិងវប្បធ៌មគឺមានភាពធំសំបើមគួរឱ្យភ័យខ្លាច។
