Forced labor:
In February 1976, Prech, a militiaman in Kbel Village, put me to work in a mobile unit, building the 5 January Dam. I was assigned to carry four cubic meters of earth per day, while the men had to carry five cubic meters of earth per day. A year after building the dam, I was assigned to transplant rice seedlings in a female mobile unit. Transplanting the rice seedlings was more difficult than building the dam because seven people had to transplant one hectare of rice seedlings. If we could not finish the assigned task, they would force us to finish it. We were supposed to wake up at four a.m., go to the paddy field, and work until six a.m. before taking a break for half an hour. Angkar upper level cadres provided the plan and the lower level cadres carried out that plan. However, I do not know the names of the Angkar upper level and lower level cadres. Regarding the building of the 5 January Dam, I worked in Tipou Commune, Santuk District, Kampong Thom Province. I do not know why they did so. Nothing else happened to me under the regime. |

Evacuation:
After the Khmer Rouge took over in 1975, they deported my family from Kampong Thom Province to Kbel Village, and then to Prey Thnal Nhoung, one kilometer to the north of Kbel Village, San Kor Commune, Kampong Svay District. The Khmer Rouge who deported my family and others from the village wore black uniforms and a cap. They deported us from Kampong Thom because they had liberated the country on April 17, 1975. I saw that there were many young and old people dying along the route, and civil servants were segregated from the others before being sent somewhere else, but I do not know where they were sent. Forced marriage: In approximately early 1978, my older brother and I were each forced to get married during the same wedding ceremony. However, there was an agreement from both sides. The commune chief asked both sides about their feelings. During the wedding ceremony, there were seven couples making a commitment by saying that they would be faithful and live together as husband and wife until the end of their lives. My brother who was forced to marry at the same time as me now lives in the village. Comrade Pet, the commune chief, held the marriage ceremony. He now lives in Preah Damrei Village, Preah Damrei Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province. The wedding ceremony took place in Sleng Khpuos Village, Sann Kor Commune, Kampong Thom Province. I do not know why they arranged marriages. I am not certain about what else happened during the regime. |
