Family separation:
In 1975, Prech, the cooperative chief, put me to work harvesting rice at Veal Krom. Later, I was sent to transplant rice seedlings at Tonle Sap. There, ten people were put to work in one paddy field. We needed to complete the assigned task. If we did not, we would be forced to work until we finished. In late 1975, I had to carry earth at 30 September Dam, where each worker was assigned to carry four cubic meters of earth daily. In 1976, Angkar sent me to grow potatoes, cabbage, papaya, and to husk rice at Kbel Village, Sann Kor Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province. I had no knowledge of their plan or why they made me walk to a place far away from my parents. My aging parents worked inside the village. At one point, when I found out that my father had died from disease, I asked Sun, the cooperative chief, to allow me to go and bury my father in Kbel Village. After burying him, Ta Pech ordered me to harvest the dry season rice. |

Starvation:
Between 1975 and 1976, I experienced starvation many times. I used to receive only three spoonfuls of rice soup when I was unable to go to work. Sun, the cooperative chief, supervised all the tasks at the 5 January Dam. I think that they starved us because they wanted us dead. |
