Three decades of deep US involvement in Indochina appeared to be rushing toward an ignominious and panicky end. More than half of South Vietnam had been seized by communist invaders from North Vietnam. In Cambodia, President Lon Nol planned to flee.
ជាង៣ទសវត្សន៍នៃការចូលរួមយ៉ាងសកម្មរបស់សហរដ្ឋអាមេរិកនៅឥណ្ឌូចិនបានបង្ហាញពីភាពប្រញ្ញាប់ប្រញ្ញាល់ទៅលើការអៀនខ្មាស់ និងភ័យស្លន់ស្លោរពេលបព្ចាប់។ ជាងពាក់កណ្ដាលនៃវៀតណាមខាងត្បូងដែលត្រូវដណ្ដើមដោយបក្សឈ្លានពានកុម្មនិស្ដពីវៀតណាមខាងជើង។ នៅកម្ពុជាសេនាប្រមុខ លន់ នល់ មានសំណងចង់រត់គេចពីប្រទេស។
