After the Communist took over the country, they expelled all foreigner out of the country. They forced evacuation into the countryside regardless of age, sex, or even state of health. Prince Sihanouk said Phnom Penh was a dead city. Its former population of 2,000,000 reduced to 50,000, virtually all military.
បន្ទាប់ពីបក្សកុម្មុយនិស្ដគ្រប់គ្រងអំណាចក្នុងប្រទេស ពួកគេបានបណេ្ដញជនបរទេសទាំងអស់ចេញពីប្រទេស។ ពួកកុម្មុយនិស្ដបានបង្ខំជម្លៀសប្រជាជនចេញទៅទីប្រជុំជនដោយមិនខ្វល់ពីអាយុទេ ឬពីស្ថានភាពសុខភាពឬក៏ជម្ងឺ។ សមេ្ដច សីហនុ និយាយថា ទីក្រុងភ្នំពេញបានក្លាយទៅជាទីក្រុងខ្មោច។ ពីមុនមានប្រជាជនជាង២០០០០០០នាក់ ឥឡូវសល់ជាង ៥០០០០នាក់ ជាក់ស្ដែងជាយោធាទាំងអស់។
