Friends of Cambodia, it is an honor to be here and to celebrate with you the indomitable spirit of a people. For here, in the cannon Rotunda, we have the evidence of one of the most horrible episldes in modern history. The holocaust of the people of Cambodia took place not in some dark age, and not in a remote time that was prey to the nightmare of ignorance, disease and want.
