Originally a monk in Phnom Penh and studied there. He was involved in the revolutionary movement from that time on, 1963????-1965???? (BKI 159 A-D, p. 420) ~ "Had lived in Vietnam in 1968 to 1969 when things were tight, that's all" (BKI 159 A-D, p. 422) ~ reassigned to the Center from the 1st Division committee after 1975 (BKI 202, p. 3218) ~ "Brought a Division from the East to fight in Region 25 on Highway 1. Didn't quarrel with Non Suon", 1973???? Asked for wats, markets, money, normal freedom of movement. Active secretly at all levels but openly only at the top level, that is why he ran into trouble" (BKI 113 (iv), p. 164) ~ "But Tath said that Chakrey wrote a letter, saying 'pia kuor aoy song sai' (something suspicious)in instructing his troops. Friend Tath read it and song sai (suspected), saying, what does this mean? Then they met about the word, and decided that Chakrey had ordered his troops to rebel" (BKI 159 A-D, p. 420) ~ It was alleged "that straight after liberation there was a military coup by friend Chakrey, who planned to stage a coup. They propagandized that he was a traitor of the Soviet CIA" (BKI 205, p. 3279) ~ was arrested with two members of hisdivisional staff and one regimental commander in Phnom Penh in May 1976; was taken to Tuol Sleng; was accused of exploding grenades behind the Royal Palace and firing on the National Museum, 197605?? (DC, BK, p. 169 ) ~ accused in a report by Duch of Center Security of alleged conspiracy with Chhouk, Ly Phen, and others (hoarding gold and explosives, distributing leaflets)(DC, BK, p. 183) ~ "Unhappy with developments" in the Communist Party of Kampuchea ;notes: according to reports received by the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh (BK, PPR, p. 67) ~ suspected by Pol Pot of treason ;notes: "some say that Chakrey wanted to carry out a coup against Pol Pot while Pol Pot was out of Phnom Penh at a meeting somewhere.
