With the fall of Khmer Republic on 17 August 1975 and the surrender of the Republic of Vietnam on 30 April 1975, and important chapter in the world history ended. The accompanying evacuation of 137,000 Vietnamese and Cambodians to the US might seem to be no more than a minor historical postscript.
