Execution:
In 1975, my husband was arrested while being evacuated out of Kampong Thom provincial town. At the time, we were evacuated by Khmer Rouge soldiers. I do not know why my husband was arrested. I learned from my relatives’ husband that my husband had been taken away and killed. My relatives told me not to have hope that my husband might have survived. He was arrested on the accusation of being a Lon Nol soldier. |

Evacuation:
In 1975, Khmer Rouge soldiers evacuated me from Kampong Thom to Krasaing Village, Sann Kor Commune. About two months later, they sent me to live at the edge of the forest; they did not want me to live in the village. About two or three months later, they allowed me to return to the village. Yeun, the commune chief, transferred me back and forth between the forest and the village. The evacuation from village to the forest and forest back to the village made it easier for them to spy on us. Starvation: In 1975, the shortage of food was severe — one can of rice was served to ten people. Until 1976, they gave us a ladle of rice soup which contained no vitamins, with Prahok (fish paste) and seasoning. That is the ration which we were given to eat. The dining hall chief was Aun, and her husband was Yeun, a militiaman. I do not know why we were given such a little amount of food to eat. Forced labor: In 1976, Angkar assigned me to work in a female mobile unit. They ordered me to do the farming at Snay Dei and later at Kaun Kha-ek of Sre Krom. Later, they sent me to dig a canal and help build the 30 September Dam. Each person was assigned to build twin dikes, ten meters in length, per day. If we did not complete this assigned task, we were assigned to do more. In this way they forced us to work until nighttime. If we did not complete this assigned task, they would not give us our food ration. Aun and Yeun were in charge of the female mobile unit. I do not know why they gave us such difficult assignments. |
