- Being forced to build, blocking water of San-tha river, from Ba Phnom district to Kampong Trabek district, Prey Veng province - Building canal at Svay Rieng district - Malnutrition, overwork - Fearing of loosing life every day in case assigned task could be completed - Dare not speak of exhaustion, being far away from family , and malnutrition. |

Forced labor: When the Khmer Rouge took control of Phnom Penh in 1975, they evacuated me from Peam Chor Village, Kraing Tayorng Commune, Peam Chor District, Prey Veng Province to Ba Phnom District and then to Kampong Trabek District, Prey Veng Province, and then to O Raing Ov Village, O Raing Ov Commune, Oraing Ov District, Kampong Cham Province. The Khmer Rouge ordered me to build a dam and dig a canal. [They put us to] work without relief until we finished our assigned tasks. Only then could we take a rest and have our meal. We had two meals per day which consisted only of rice soup. Though the food was insufficient, we dared not complain, fearing that the upper level Angkar would become aware of our complaints and take us for re-education. Husbands and wives could not spend time together because the Khmer Rouge assigned them to work separately. I do not know the name of my unit chief. My unit was comprised of thirty people and one group was comprised of ten people. I do not know why the Khmer Rouge starved and forced people to work without relief. |
