Detention:
One day in late 1977 or early 1978, as I was walking through a forest behind the cooperative of Stong District, I saw a jackfruit next to the trail. I reported this to Tann, the group chief. However, Tann accused me of stealing the jackfruit. Then they arrested and detained me in Tuol Phlorng Security Center for seven days. After that, they sent me to the detention center at Champa Krom. I was detained for approximately two or three months and suffered from malnutrition. I do not know the people who supervised the detention center. |

After 1975, the Khmer Rouge put me to work plowing one hectare using five plows. If I could not complete the assigned task, I would receive no food ration. At that time, Daung, the commune chief, put me to work plowing paddy fields. In addition, I had to build rice dikes -- one meter in high, two meters in width, and ten meters in length per day. If I could not complete this task, I would receive no food ration. Exhausted and unable to carry the earth as ordered, many times I was given no food ration. Furthermore, they assigned me only one day to uproot trees to prepare the land for growing potatoes. We grew the potatoes, but they did not allow us to eat them. Even I, myself, grew them. These incidents took place in Chamna Krom Commune. Family separation: In mid-1975, after I was released from the commune detention center, they sent me to Por Puok to chop down trees. I was not allowed to meet with my family. At one point, my wife became sick. I asked permission from an elderly man named Han, the commune chief of Por Puok, to visit my wife. He said that I was not a member of the medical staff and there was no need for me to go there. When the Vietnamese troops came to liberate us, I returned to meet my wife. At that time, my wife was about to be taken to be killed. She was sick, pregnant, and carrying another baby in her hands when the Khmer Rouge brought her to be killed in the pit. Fortunately, the Vietnamese troops arrived in time, she returned and we reunited. At that time, I lived in Champea Krom Village. |
