Detention and torture:
In Kakdoek [the 12th month of lunar calendar] of 1975, I was detained in the communal prison, which was the house of an elderly woman named Mok. It was located in Po Phlot Commune, Stong District I was detained there for one whole day . After I escaped from the prison, I was detained at Spean Srak of Chamnar Krok Commune, on the accusation of allowing the cows to eat rice in the paddy fields. This detention lasted for one night and a day only. Next, I escaped from that place again. Eventually, I was detained at a security center of Po Phlouk Commune, on the accusation of escaping from the prison. The communal security chief was Hap. I was brutally tortured by security police who used a stick to beat my body and the nape of my neck. At approximately twelve p.m. on the day I was tortured, Hap ordered his security police to untie Chhorn, another prisoner, and take him to be executed (unknown place). Two days later, the security police released me and put me to work at Tuol Ta Yeung worksite of Chamnar Krom Commune. In the prison, I saw approximately ten prisoners. At that time, I was sixteen years old. To some degree, I knew that prisoners were detained because of stealing and harming Angkar. In the same year (1975), my elder brother, Chhorn, was brutally beaten by his group chief. He was accused of stealing potatoes which belonged to Angkar. After returning home, he died from the injuries he sustained in the beating. My elder brother was beaten at Ta Yeung worksite of Chamnar Krom Commune. I witnessed the incident with my own eyes, because I was working with him. Aside from these events, I never witnessed any other incidents because I worked in a district mobile unit, and the mobile unit moved often to work on different projects in Stong District. |
