Death of my father:
In late 1977, the Khmer Rouge accused my father, Daung Youp, of being a traitor to Angkar. They came to our house and arrested him. I was so young that I do not recall how many Khmer Rouge cadres came to arrest my father. I think that he might have been sent to Koh Sla Prison and executed there. I do not know who came to capture him, who ordered the arrest, or who is responsible for his disappearance and death. I lived with him, but I did not witness the incident. My mother, Ruos Mom (deceased), witnessed the incident. During the regime, disappearing or being taken away meant death. Our house was located in O Chreou Village, O Chreou Commune. Shortly after the arrest of my father, we were certain that he was dead. We dared not ask what happened to him, because we were afraid of being taken away and executed. Doing business to make a living 4. Looking after children 5. Inability to travel far |
