During the 1960s, Pol Pot "insisted that the main task for Cambodian Communists was to push on with their own revolution and seek the overthrow of the Sihanouk regime by armed struggle, regardless of external factors" (BK, CB, p. iii) ~ Pol Pot was in Peking when Sihanouk was overthrown (BK, CB, p. iv) ~ Following his return from Peking in 1970, he asked the (Communist)Vietnamese troops to withdraw (BK, CB, p. iv) ~ While in France in 1952, he signed his contributions to a student magazine as the "Original Khmer." These writings included fierce attacks on Sihanouk (BK, CB, p. 22) ~ Disagreed with Hou Yuon when the two took part in discussion groups in France in the early 1950s (BK, CB, p. 23) ~ After returning to Cambodia in 1953, he spent the last part of the independence war in the jungle, with the Communist-led Issaraks (BK, CB, p. 16) ~ During the 1955 elections, he carried out liaison work between the Democratic Party and the Communist Pracheachon group (BK, CB, p. 16) ~ In early summer 1963, he disappeared from his regular job and fled into the maquis (BK, CB, p. 105)
