In 1973 he was the leading figure fighting agianst the Vietnamese inside Cambodia. He made speeches telling the people to arm themselves with knives and axes to drive the Vietnamese out of Koh Thom (SH, JAP 3, p. 8) ~ "He was considered by people who came from abroad to be an ultra leftist and very much anti-intellectual. Among the people from abroad, he had a reputation for being harsh" (SH, JAP 3, p. 8) ~ During Non Suon's control of Angkor Chey "Lots of people from abroad were sent there for re-education and were very badly treated. They were forced to work very hard and yet given very little food... After re-education in his site, a lot of people were sent for execution" (SH, JAP 3, p. 8) ~ described as a "prominent legal cadre" (SH, JAP 3, p. 8) ~ worked on the Pracheachon newspaper after 1954 (SH, JAP 15, p. 25) ~ worked with Khieu Samphan (SH, JAP 15, p. 25) ~ According to this source Chey Suon was arrested in 1956 and not released until after 1970 (SH, JAP 15, p. 25) ~ In 1971, he became the Secretary of the Region 25 Committee (SH, JAP 15, p. 25) ~ led demonstrations to drive the Vietnamese out of Cambodia starting in January of 1973 (SH, JAP 15, p. 26) ~ In April of 1973, Chey said in public and private speeches that the Vietnamese had wanted to take over Cambodian territory and control Camboida politically "ever since the time of Ho Chi Minh" (SH, JAP 15, p. 27) ~ "He seemed to be more anti-Vietnamese than anti-American. He said that Vietnam was our historical enemy" (SH, JAP 15, p. 27)
