Main Crime Details :
The loss of my younger brother, Sok La, in 1978

At about six p.m. one night in 1978, Saom Um (deceased), a Nhor village chief, came to take my younger brother, Sok La, from our home, to given an “education. People who lived in the family witnessed the incident, because everyone was at home. When taken to receive an “education, my brother was not able to bring anything with him, except himself. After the order was given, he rushed to leave with the village chief. When called for “re-education, one had to go immediately, or one would be killed.

Because we were all afraid of being taken to receive an “education, our family did not dare ask the village chief, where was taking my brother. At the time, “taking someone to receive an education meant taking that person to be executed. That’s why, we felt certain, that my brother must have been killed, when he was called to receive an “education. When the incident took place, we lived in Nhor village, Nhor commune, Kampong Ro district, Svay Rieng province. Prior to my brother’s arrest, Sok La, my younger brother, Nut Kien, who now lives in this village, Prum Phally, who now also lives in this village, and I, worked together in the same mobile work brigade. The chiefs of that mobile work brigade were Kry (deceased) and Ban (deceased).

I think they called my brother to receive an “education, because his work did not satisfy the Khmer Rouge’s demands. He was not good at digging and carrying dirt. He was unable to finish the entire task assigned to him, because he did not have the strength to do forced labor. When he got sick, they accused him of laziness. Our family does not know, to which education place he was taken. Despite not knowing, where he was killed, I think my brother must have been executed by the regime. I do not know for sure, who killed him. However, I know that the person who should be held accountable for his death is Saom Um, the village chief. I want to clarify one thing. My family did not dare seek news of my brother after he was taken away, out of fear of also being taken away to receive an “education. He must have been killed, because after the fall of the Pol Pot regime, I never heard anything from him.
