Summary / Abstract :
The Thai cabinet and the government advisory council concluded the reasons for Cambodian attacks on Thailand were based on: 1)the two countries were using different maps; 2)Cambodia was angry that its opposition Khmer Serei movement used Thai territory for its operation, of which the Thai government was unaware; 3)Cambodia was furious that many of its soldiers were killed when they invaded Thailan d; 4)Cambodia tried to divert its people's attention from their hardship. Thailand's Defense Minister Admiral Sa-ngat Chaloyu said he had a plan to prevent a Cambodian invasion, evacuate villagers fro m the border area, and strengthen villagers' self-protection ability. On Aug 6, 1977, the Thai Marine unit clashed with the Cambodian troop at Ban Hat Lek Village in Klong Yat District, Trat Province. Two Thai officers were seriously wounded. Aug 7, 1977, Cambodian soldiers launched a rocket on Ban Noi Parai Village in Prachinburi. Thai officers and volunteers clashed with twenty Khmer soldiers at Ban Sa-ngae Village in Prachinburi.
