Summary / Abstract :
Social theorists and area experts examine eleven recent revolutionary or near-revolutionary crises -- in Vietnam, Nicaragua, Iran, Poland, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, the Philippines, Kampuchea, Israel, and South Africa -- to determine how revolutions originate, how they affect a country"s potential for economic development, why they may result in coercive regimes, and how superpower actions affect the course of revolutionary struggles once they have begun. The authors look closely at the individual characteristics of each revolution, assessing its local impact as well as its regional and international repercussions. (Publisher).
