On the night of January 28, 1977, Khmer Rouge forces raided three Thai border villages, Ban Nong Do (Ban Nong Dor), Ban Khlong Kho (Ban Klong Kor)and Ban Noi Parai in Aranyaprathet District, Prachinbu ri Province. About thirty people, including children and women, were killed. Since then clashes between Thai and Khmer forces increased. On July 27, 1977 (?)47 Thai soldiers while on a patrol in Ban N oi Parai area clashed with over 200 Khmer Rouge soldiers. Over thirty Thai soldiers were killed. The First Region Army Commander General Amnat Damrikan said that Thailand was to strike back fiercely i n order to cause damage to Cambodia ten times higher than what the Khmer Rouge had done to Thailand.
