Summary / Abstract :
|
Thailand's Deputy Supreme Commander General Kriangsak Chomanan gave a talk on the situation in Cambodia at the fund-raising luncheon for buying weapons for Thai border villagers. He said there had bee n an attempted coup by top military leaders in Cambodia but the plan was leaked out and that led to a widespread massacre in Oddar Meanchey, Kampong Som and Siem Reap, where the coup plotters were bas ed. Khieu Sampan was dismissed from the Head of the State. Prime Minister Pol Pot took over the position of Party President from Salon Chad (sic). Ieng Sary was totally removed from power. Kriangsak s aid Cambodia's major problems included government failure to manage its domestic problems, lack of consumption goods, lack of military offensive power and disunity among the leaders. He believed Thail and's conflict with Cambodia was derived from Cambodia's misunderstanding that Thailand was helping its rival, the Khmer Serei movment.
