Summary / Abstract :
Although both the Thai and Cambodian governments recently announced that they were not to intervene in each other's internal affairs, and restored their diplomatic relations, the border clashes still continued. Some suspected that behind the scenes there was possibly a superpower who whated to expand its domination over the region. However, an unnamed Thai army source said that the invasions might be the work of Khmer Rouge soldiers at the local level while the central government did not know what was going on. Or they possibly pretended not to know about it. Besides, a third party was involve d. That was the Khmer Serei soldiers stationed along the border of Chanthaburi and Trat Provinces. These soldiers always went out to cause problems in Cambodia and then back to Thailand. The Khmer Rou ge forces thus followed the rebels into Thailand and took revenge against the Thais. Sometimes the Thai military relied on the Khmer Serei soldiers for intelligence work. However, Cambodia was support ing the Thai communist organization "Angkar Siem", the main duty of which was to train the Thai communist guerillas for terrorist operations in Thailand.
