Summary / Abstract :
|
In this outstanding article, which was specifically written for use by teachers and students at the secondary level, Charny cogently delineates the major issues and concerns facing humanity today vis- a-vis genocide. In doing so, he examines the debate over that which constitutes genocide and then offers his own "humanistic" definition of genocide that includes the intentional murder of a group of human beings on the basis of any shared identity. He concludes by proposing the development of an early-warning organization to monitor and publicize genocidal tendencies. (Samuel Totten).
