On January 05, 1973, about 2,500 to 5,000 Khmer Viet Cong soldiers under the command of Chey, and San, in special unit 39 hid at VV 906-021 in Kampong Samraong village, at VV 947-035 in La Peak village, at VV 924-056 to the south of Prey Kuy village and at VV 903-083, 906-087 to the North of Kra Chap village in Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province.
They attempted fully seize Kampong Thom provincial town in this dry season. កាលពីថ្ងៃទី៥ ខែមករា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៣ កងទ័ពពិសេសខ្មែរយៀកកុងចំនួន ២,៥០០នាក់ ទៅ៥,០០០នាក់ ប្រដាប់អាវុធទំនើបគ្រប់ធុននៅ ក្នុងកងលេខ៣៩ ក្រោម បញ្ជាឈ្មោះ ជៃ សាន់ មករាយគ្នាបង្កប់ នៅភូមិកំពង់សំរោង វ៉េវ៉េៈ ៩០៦-០២១, ភូមិល្ពាក វ៉េវ៉េៈ ៩៤៧-០៣៥, ខាងត្បូងភូមិព្រៃ គុយ វ៉េវ៉េៈ ៩២៤-០៥៦ ខាងជើងភូមិ ក្រចាប់ វ៉េវ៉េៈ ៩០៣-០៨៣, វ៉េវ៉េៈ ៩០៦-០៨៧ ក្នុងស្រុក កំពង់ស្វាយ ខេត្ដកំពង់ធំ។ ខ្មាំងខាងលើនេះមានបំណងវាយប្រហារ យកក្រុងកំពង់ធំ ឱ្យខានតែបានក្នុងរដូវប្រាំងឆ្នាំនេះ។
