Summary / Abstract :

Ambassador Martin has reported that president Thieu has agreed to a direct Loan of four Riverine Monitors to Cambodian Navy to assist with minesweeping in the Mekong River. CINCPAC and the chairman of the JCS support the Loan request. These monitor are heavily armored, and can operate under intense fire. In turn, these vessels will greatly enhance the MNK's minesweeping capability in those tretches of the river controlled by enemy. The 12 monitor now possessed by the Cambodian Navy are not sufficient to accomplish both security and minesweeping tasks.
