Summary / Abstract :
|
Siem Reap: In a Cambodia diveded by war, this is the saddest bounding of all. The four-mile stretch of between the provincial town of Siem Reap, held by the Phnom Penh Government, and the Angkor Wat ruins in Communist hands since June 1970-is split almost aqually between the two sides. War has transformed this southern appraoch to one of humanity's most grandiose architectural creation into a melancholy, wounded land. Postsof a building that was never finished stand naked and forlon near the shall-marked highway. It was to be a theatre where tourists from around the world would be anchanted by Cambodian classical dance.
