The defense department today sharply raised its casualty figures for the Mayaguez rescue, announcing that 5 U.S. servicemen had been killed and 70 to 80 wounded. In addition secretary of defense James Schlesinger said 16 servicemen are still missing in the action which saved the Mayaguez merchant ship and it crew of 40 in the gulf of Thailand off Cambodia last week.
