Summary / Abstract :
|
At 2:15 pm, May 12, the S.S Mayaguez was passing the island of Poulo Wai which belonged to South Vietnam. A small gun boat was noticed approacting the ship from the island. When it was about 300 yards from the Mayaguez it started shooting across the bow. The gun boat came near the vessel pointung guns and signaled for the ship to stop and be boarded. These armed men came aboard and went up to the pilot house and ordered the captain to follow the gunboat and that the ship had been seized.
